EXPO 2005 was held from Friday, March 25 until Sunday, September 25, 2005 in Aichi/Japan near the city of Nagoya.The EXPO theme was “Natureʼs Wisdom“ and addressed ecological co-existence, renewable technology, and sustainable development worldwide. With over 22 milion visitors the EXPO was an enormous success.

The German Pavilion BIONIS (approaching developments of wings, robots, aircrafts and wind power) was one of the three most visited pavilions and was awarded a gold medal. BIONIS featured the Experience Ride, a 300 meters / two story dark ride, as a main attraction, an Experience Cave as pre-show and an Experience Lab as post-show events.

Our team was charged to develop, integrate and operate the complete media technology, the show control, several multimedia applications, interactive photo stations and more. The main attraction besides numerous projections in the Experience Ride was a motion-system. This motion-system was integrated in the tracks of the ride and equipped with a 3-channel dome projection system. It happened that the wagons, being the Experience Drops, were detached from the tracks and moved by the motion-system. During that a short movie was playing inside the dome. After the movie the wagons were re-connected and continued the ride through the projection screen whereas the middle part of the screen was uplifted.

The calibration of the geometry and edge-blending inside the dome as well as the mastering of the video was done by us with the help of our domeprojection.com auto-alignment system.
